any web designers love using PNG image graphic format (Portable Network Graphics) of course I am one of them. because PNG images as W3C say: are extensible file format for the lossless, portable, well-compressed storage of raster images. PNG provides a patent-free replacement for GIF and can also replace many common uses of TIFF. Indexed-color, grayscale, and true color images are supported, plus an optional alpha channel. Sample depths range from 1 to 16 bits.

 
PNG is also designed to work well in online viewing applications, such as the World Wide Web, so it is fully streamable with a progressive display option. PNG is robust, providing both full file integrity checking and simple detection of common transmission errors.

Also, PNG can store gamma and chromaticity data for improved color matching on heterogeneous platforms.

In simple words PNG images are something between JPEG and GIF images. PNG has the beautiful resolution of JPEG and the small size of GIF, the only bad thing about PNG images is how internet explorer 6 deals with them. It add ugly blue border around them. Because it can’t deal with transparency.

Therefore, every web designer that cares his website to be shown in most common browsers must do something about that. There are many ways in the internet. From my experience, these are the best:

of course not all of them could work perfectly in your website. That is depend on your code, and how you use it. But at least it must be one of them will work for you.

 
For wordpress websites there is a great plugin (HITS- IE6 PNGFix) that can do the same. The great thing about that plugin is, it contains the four PNG fix methods together, you can try and select which one is suitable for you. You can find it here:
